knowmind vs. Zep
Zep and knowmind both give an AI agent a memory that outlives a session. They aim at different buyers.
What Zep offers
Zep's Graphiti component is open source, and Zep itself can run as BYOC — inside your own cloud account. The hosted service starts with 10,000 credits per month free; the Flex tier is $125 per month, Flex Plus is $375 per month. If your team wants the memory inside its own infrastructure, or already thinks in credits and usage, Zep is built for that.
What knowmind offers
knowmind is a flat-priced operated service: Pro is €15 per month or €150 per year, the free tier includes 2,500 memories, and no credit accounting is involved. Every fact carries provenance, a required confidence level, and a bitemporal history, so a correction never destroys the record of what was believed before. Access logs are hash-chained and externally timestamped (RFC 3161). The service is operated in Germany on Hetzner (Nuremberg) with a public GDPR data processing agreement and tenant isolation. There is no self-hosted edition below the Enterprise on-premise option (from €1,000 per month).
How to choose
Pick Zep if you want to run it in your own cloud account, or if Graphiti as an open source building block fits your stack. Pick knowmind if you want a fixed, small monthly price instead of usage credits, and if the audit side — who wrote what, when, backed by an externally timestamped log — is part of what you have to deliver. The price gap is real: knowmind Pro (€15) against Zep Flex ($125) is a different order of magnitude, and so is the scope — Zep sells infrastructure flexibility that knowmind does not.
